Since we’ve been talking about exploring various genres & imagining new worlds of bellydance, I thought it’d be fun to explore one of my favorite (new-ish) genres:  SteamPunk! ^_^  Although it’s been around for years, and explored in various books & moves for ages, many people still don’t know what SteamPunk is- or worse- have never even heard of it. o.O

Although it’s fair to say that I am indeed something of a fan, my SP wardrobe is still woefully wee.  But I still love the cogs, corsets, possibility & imagination of it all. :)  -And a few years ago, when I’d just begun to really find my place in the genre, I put together a “tiny” compilation of music that got my own gears turning. :) As many bellydancers I know seem to be fellow Steam-fans, and lots of the music on this list is -extremely- belly-able, I thought I’d share it here, with you. :)

Hope you like, and please, feel free to let me know if there’s something else that ought to be on this list!  I’ve since discovered a few more artists whose sound embodies this style for me, but it’s been a while since I’ve updated this playlist.  So feel free to drop me a line w/any suggestions- I’m always up for discovering new music. ^_^

“Don’t think about the style of music these songs are in.. think about how they make you feel.. what they inspire you to imagine…

“Cast your mind far away to a time and place that never was.. where steam engines became the first computers, gears and cogs populated everything from factories to fashion, and top hats, corsets, & gritty Victorian fare ruled the day.  

“Mechanized worlds of wonder and darkly beautiful clockspring violins lie in wait to seranade you…  -Now who will you be? What part of this sepia-tinged world will you find yourself in?  Are you in Europe, Asia, Africa- the Middle East?  Perhaps India or the US is calling you Home..?  Next.. find that role to whom you most gravitate.  Are you the creator.. the inventor.. the created.. the invented..?  Are you an airship adventurer with high boots, telescopic goggles and a leather cap  Are you the wildly-quaffed damsel who carries an arkubus in your garter and a wicked little blade tucked beneath your tattered, fingerless lace gloves?  Or perhaps, you’re just a street urchin, watching the whole processional of classes & trades pass by these mucky, darkened streets.  Perhaps you pick pockets and sell your gear-covered wares to the metal smiths & all the highest bidders in the seedy, sometimes-grisly black market..?  ..Or perhaps you’re a traveler- a vagabond, a performer, or soothsayer?  Do you tell fortunes to outsiders to feed your family, or are you royalty?  

“Now.. lets venture into the smokey streets and Tesla coiled archetypes of SteamPunk!!  Close your eyes, listen deep, open your mind & feel. 
Then, let your imagination fly…!!!”
