Hey guys! I just got back from San Francisco (stayed there for TG & had a LOVELY time ^_^), and wanted to let y’all know that all my prints on Etsy are on sale today, should anyone wanna take advantage of my Black Friday / Cyber Monday discount. :)
Until midnight tonight, everything in my Etsy store is 20% off. :) Just use coupon code “BLACKFRIDAY” at checkout, and BOOM, there ya go. ^_^
I have bellydancers of all kinds there, and more’s always comin’, so I hope you’ll like what ya find. ^_^ (And of course, if you have any requests, I’d be happy to make you your own pieces, should you want something especially for you. ^_^) Oh! Also, since not everything I have in print-form is quiiite up on Etsy yet, if you pop by my Notes section on FB and see a print you’d like to buy, I’ll be happy to either list it or sell it to you directly, & still give you the 20% discount. :)
Hope you guys are all doing well, and that everyone’s Thanksgiving was faboo. ^_^
New fluffy dancer art, and new bellydancer prints all ‘round! :D (Including new prints of peoples’ favorite; "We are All Beautiful." ^_^ Come see, come see! Maybe you could get something for yourself, your studio, your mentor/teacher, or a friend this holiday season, or.. just for a little inspiration. ^_^
Hope you like!
Squeeeee!!! The video from my latter performance on October 19th is in!! Yaaay! *bounces around the room* This was the spooky improv. piece I made this stuff for, and even though I know the performance was not exactly perfect, I’m still really happy with how it turned out. ^_^
It -felt- good, which was one nice thing. Even though I was nervous about traversing the stage (as it was my first time seeing it/being there), and even though I knew I was blanking on a few key aspects of movement I’d wanted to include in the piece (thank you nerves), the nerves were still not HALF as bad as they normally are, and I was -really- getting into and having fun w/the character, playing off the energy of the audience, and that was a big part of what I think did it. :) Plus some of the techniques I’ve been working on that I learned in Alia’s 90-Day Dance Party Challenge made a big difference, too. She’s got some great techniques for improv. and stage fright that really can help a great deal. ^_^ And looking back on it now via this video, I’m actually okay with what I see, which is a HUGE step for me. :):) Normally I HATE watching myself dance, end up criticizing the HELL out of myself while I do, and in every other performance before this (singing or dancing- which, yes, includes the one I’d done just prior to this one, that very same day) I obsess endlessly over what went wrong, all the mistakes I made, etc. But in this case, not much of that was there, for which I am INSANELY grateful. ^_^
Part of it might be learning to look beyond the fluff when I look at myself, I think, and I know that’s a big hurdle for many of us, big or small. But part of it too, is remembering how much fun it was, what a great response I got from the crowd, the positive experience I had back stage and allll through the night that night, recollecting all the support I had from friends and family that day, and how many sweet people came up to me afterward, to tell me how much they loved my piece. ^_^ All that.. that made a huuuuge difference. But a lot of it came from inside, too. Learning to channel a bit of that nervous energy, remembering the love of the music and really getting into character those things helped a ton, too. *beams*
I think from now on I’m gonna work with character a lot more in my pieces. The all come from me in one way or another, but being able to channel that energy really does seem to not only help the piece develop, but also help w/stage fright and other issues. :) Oh! And speaking of! The character btw, for those who don’t know, was an evil river fae. The scary, grab-you-down-and-eat-you kind from the oooooold, cautionary folktales told back in the days looong before Disney made faerie-tales anything but scary. ;) And for those who might know of her, this character was loosely adapted from the stories of Jenny Greenteeth, and made into a US, bayou-dwelling version. ;D.
As for the outfit, all it is is a green skirt I already had, a thriftstore dress that I cut up and made into a top and slitted overskirt combo, various layers of Creepy Cloth (in green- I loved how they looked like lichen! :D), a tummy cover, a weird mossy bit of trim I bought at a fabric store, annnnd all the accessories I made for this piece. :) (Which included two necklaces, two bracelets, a pair of earrings, and the belt.) It’s hard to see here, but the accessories featured everything from teeth and fingers to eyeballs, mice, fish and bones. ^_^
Anyway, enough of me prattling on. I hope you enjoy my work, ‘cause I had a blast! ^_^
So awesomely epic. ^_^ *eyes go huge* Omg! And I just realized I live in the land of the Apsara now! XD Squeeeeee! *bounce bounce bounce*
Oh! And for anyone who might be interested, my Etsy shop lives again at last! :D I still don’t have my crafting supplies (they’re all back in VA, still waiting to be shipped), but I -was- able to bring my art prints. ^_^ Hooray for paperstuffs that can pack more easily when you’re moving by plane! :D
ATM I have 4 bellydance-based prints up for sale, but I have various others here w/me ready to go now, plus more prints will be made soon, featuring some of my newest art. :) For a full list of the prints I have ready currently, check out this post, and for more yet to come, stay tuned! ^_^
Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I went to a show in town last night, and acgh, what a multi-faceted blessing it turned out to be! Despite my scouring the interwebs since coming here for bellydance events, somehow this (and various others, I fear) have fallen under my radar, so I was -delighted- to hear about this -weekly- belly event! ^_^ (And just think; I could have gone to FOUR of these so far since coming here! Gah! O.O) But now that I know about it (and a few others coming up, squee!), I -definitely- plan to attend again- and regularly! ^_^
As for the blessings..? There were many! Firstly, the lineup was faboo. The dancers there were just lovely, and the place itself is great for dancing. There’s a raised stage where the band cranks out live, awesome Middle Eastern music for the dancers, and just below (on what I’m guessing is the dancefloor), there’s a greeeat space where the dancers can freely cut loose and improv to old & new favorites alike, (w/GREAT lighting, and w/o the fear of falling off a stage or having to deal with steps). :D The price of admission was low, the people were positively lovely, and I even got to meet a few dancers to boot. ^_^ (Shout out to Ruby, Tiffany, Alfredo, and the lovely bartender & event coordinator there. ^_^) The crowd was smallish but lively, and in the middle of most of the performances, the band would play a number so the audience could get up & dance. ^_^ (What a great way to make sure the dancers have enough time to get ready, while they let people get their own dance on after being inspired by the lovely performers they’ve just seen! :D)
Plus I met my friend’s friend, who was -adorable- on stage (and who did some pretty nifty things w/a sword), and to add icing on the cake, it turns out that the band who plays there is one -I’ve podcasted recently; on Eclectica!- :D -And to add one last cherry on top of the whole delectable dessert..? Not only was there a sweet older man giving out free (and SUPER nummy) pumpkin pie (omnomnom- I may be pescatarian now, but I can still have pah! XD), the venue is open to dancers of various levels, and as it seems they’ve just started taking apps for 2014.. I might actually get to go there and perform sometime! Squee! XD
Though, given the high caliber of performers there, I admit that prospect is just the teeensiest bit daunting. The 2 performers I got to talk to have been dancing for FIFTEEN and NINETEEN years, and the costumes I saw there were CRAZY beaded, spangly & ornate, (meaning, likely -crazy-pricey), so I dunno if I’m quite worthy of being amongst those ranks yet… But.. on the other hand.. ‘ey, it’s worth a try, right..? Maybe I’ll get in -after- I’ve had the chance to take a few classes w/some great people here, so I have time to up my game & get a few costume pieces back from storage on the East Coast beforehand. *chuckles* Lawd knows, I’d -srsly- need some performance duds at the -very- least, since mine couldn’t be taken here on the plane. *pout*
But but but.. later this week? (Or, more correctly, this weekend), I’ll be going to -another- event that I found out about last night. ^_^ It’s gonna have more dancers, traditional ME music- and even SINGING! :D (And, ftr, it turns out that the guy who’ll be singing there is a -major- sweetheart. He was there last night, and seeing me waiting for the bus w/my cane, offered me a ride home. *shakes head, in awe* What a nice guy is that?? I didn’t take him up on his kind offer as I’m trying really hard to be self-sufficient here, but I appreciated the gesture like -mad.- How kind of him, to offer a total stranger a ride home..??)
I am so glad to’ve found more belly-events going on, to have begun meeting people in the scene, and to actually be able to GET to stuff I wanna see/do. ^_^ And if the Heavens are kind, soon there shall be more pics n’ videos of my own performances as they happen here in my new hometown, as well of events that I may be coordinating myself.. ^_^
I hope you guys are having a big, beautiful week, and see you again soon! (Preferably w/a brand new ep of Eclectica to share, in celebration of my recent internet acquisition and my move! ^_^)
Eeee! Lookie lookie lookie what I have access to again- AT LAST!!! XD *bounces off the walls* I HAS THE INTERNETS!!! *’splodes*
And now that I -have- those interwebbly things, I can share with you a few of the photos that were taken of my performances last month, on October 19th before I moved! XD
Both sets of event photos are courtesy of Robert Morrow (he says his camera didn’t do so well in the evening shots, but I still love them, blurry or no), and took place at Roanoke Pagan Pride Day 2013 in the daytime, and later, just a hop, skip & a jump away, at Haflaween 2013 at night!
Thank you to all the super-sweet people who came out and cheered me on, as well as to those kind souls who came up to me post each peformance and lent their kind words to my spirit about the pieces that I’d performed that day. You guys all ROCK. ^_^
Now, I just hope to get some more potos and videos of the events, ‘cause I haven’t seen much of them either! *lol*
Hope you guys like!
Oooh look! I has internets for a minnit! XD (I’m at a local Starbucks, waiting for my cell phone to be repaired, and chomping at the BIT for my cable/internet installation, which is coming this Sunday. XD) And while I’m here, since my posts have been so few and far between lately (oh please, dear GODS let the internet come Sunday!!), I’mma give you something of -quality- to help keep me and this little blog in your memories, so you don’t forget us until we’re back. ^_^ (Wheeen we’ll probably deluge you with a wash of posts as I catch up, hopefully not making you want to forget me again. *lol*)
Here’s Rachel Brice doing a -lovely- collaboration for a truly nifty video, featuring gorgeous, spiffy music, and Rachel in two, count ‘em TWO of her Epicly Badass outfits. ^_^
And this was me that same night, at Haflaween. ^_^ Evil river fae enough for ya? :D. (I was COVERED in moss, spiders, rats, fish, bones and other little ghoulish “trophies-” like the fingers and teeth at my neck there. :D). More pics n’ video coming soon! ^_^
Hi guys! Just wanted y’all to know I’m still alive n’ thinking of ya! I’ve successfully made the leap from one coast to the other, but as of now I still has no cable or interwebz, so we’ll have to deal w/my semi-craptastic phone for now.
This was me last week at my Pagan Pride Day performance, and there’s more of that day on the way! (zi still haven’t figgered out how to do multiple photos on the same post w/the app yet.). But I hope you lke, & haven’t forgotten me yet! <3
