For my beautiful dancers of ALL kinds; a labor of love; my little podcast, Eclectica’s newest episode is out this very morning! :D
I was sick like poo lately, but I’ve been so happy about the move and having the interwebs again so I could DO this kind of thing, and about this beautiful area that I’m in, so rich w/bellydance culture, I -had- to whip up a new ep. ^_^ (Which should be on iTunes soon too- as quick as their bots register it. :))
I don’t make anything from it, aside from the joy of bringing great musicians and a loving dance community together, so I really hope y’all like. ^_^ (So if you know some musicians or bands you’d like to see on the show, if you’ve requests or suggestions, please, feel free to drop me a line. :D) -And it’s got ALL kinds of music, so it’s great for dancers of ALL styles. ^_^
My holiday epi will be coming soon too, so if you’re in the market for new celebratory music of various sorts, keep your ears tuned. ^_^ Hope y’all enjoy! *beams*

New fluffy dancer art, and new bellydancer prints all ‘round! :D (Including new prints of peoples’ favorite; "We are All Beautiful." ^_^ Come see, come see! Maybe you could get something for yourself, your studio, your mentor/teacher, or a friend this holiday season, or.. just for a little inspiration. ^_^
Hope you like!
Squeeeee!!! The video from my latter performance on October 19th is in!! Yaaay! *bounces around the room* This was the spooky improv. piece I made this stuff for, and even though I know the performance was not exactly perfect, I’m still really happy with how it turned out. ^_^
It -felt- good, which was one nice thing. Even though I was nervous about traversing the stage (as it was my first time seeing it/being there), and even though I knew I was blanking on a few key aspects of movement I’d wanted to include in the piece (thank you nerves), the nerves were still not HALF as bad as they normally are, and I was -really- getting into and having fun w/the character, playing off the energy of the audience, and that was a big part of what I think did it. :) Plus some of the techniques I’ve been working on that I learned in Alia’s 90-Day Dance Party Challenge made a big difference, too. She’s got some great techniques for improv. and stage fright that really can help a great deal. ^_^ And looking back on it now via this video, I’m actually okay with what I see, which is a HUGE step for me. :):) Normally I HATE watching myself dance, end up criticizing the HELL out of myself while I do, and in every other performance before this (singing or dancing- which, yes, includes the one I’d done just prior to this one, that very same day) I obsess endlessly over what went wrong, all the mistakes I made, etc. But in this case, not much of that was there, for which I am INSANELY grateful. ^_^
Part of it might be learning to look beyond the fluff when I look at myself, I think, and I know that’s a big hurdle for many of us, big or small. But part of it too, is remembering how much fun it was, what a great response I got from the crowd, the positive experience I had back stage and allll through the night that night, recollecting all the support I had from friends and family that day, and how many sweet people came up to me afterward, to tell me how much they loved my piece. ^_^ All that.. that made a huuuuge difference. But a lot of it came from inside, too. Learning to channel a bit of that nervous energy, remembering the love of the music and really getting into character those things helped a ton, too. *beams*
I think from now on I’m gonna work with character a lot more in my pieces. The all come from me in one way or another, but being able to channel that energy really does seem to not only help the piece develop, but also help w/stage fright and other issues. :) Oh! And speaking of! The character btw, for those who don’t know, was an evil river fae. The scary, grab-you-down-and-eat-you kind from the oooooold, cautionary folktales told back in the days looong before Disney made faerie-tales anything but scary. ;) And for those who might know of her, this character was loosely adapted from the stories of Jenny Greenteeth, and made into a US, bayou-dwelling version. ;D.
As for the outfit, all it is is a green skirt I already had, a thriftstore dress that I cut up and made into a top and slitted overskirt combo, various layers of Creepy Cloth (in green- I loved how they looked like lichen! :D), a tummy cover, a weird mossy bit of trim I bought at a fabric store, annnnd all the accessories I made for this piece. :) (Which included two necklaces, two bracelets, a pair of earrings, and the belt.) It’s hard to see here, but the accessories featured everything from teeth and fingers to eyeballs, mice, fish and bones. ^_^
Anyway, enough of me prattling on. I hope you enjoy my work, ‘cause I had a blast! ^_^
So awesomely epic. ^_^ *eyes go huge* Omg! And I just realized I live in the land of the Apsara now! XD Squeeeeee! *bounce bounce bounce*
Oooh look! I has internets for a minnit! XD (I’m at a local Starbucks, waiting for my cell phone to be repaired, and chomping at the BIT for my cable/internet installation, which is coming this Sunday. XD) And while I’m here, since my posts have been so few and far between lately (oh please, dear GODS let the internet come Sunday!!), I’mma give you something of -quality- to help keep me and this little blog in your memories, so you don’t forget us until we’re back. ^_^ (Wheeen we’ll probably deluge you with a wash of posts as I catch up, hopefully not making you want to forget me again. *lol*)
Here’s Rachel Brice doing a -lovely- collaboration for a truly nifty video, featuring gorgeous, spiffy music, and Rachel in two, count ‘em TWO of her Epicly Badass outfits. ^_^
Hi guys! Just wanted y’all to know I’m still alive n’ thinking of ya! I’ve successfully made the leap from one coast to the other, but as of now I still has no cable or interwebz, so we’ll have to deal w/my semi-craptastic phone for now.
This was me last week at my Pagan Pride Day performance, and there’s more of that day on the way! (zi still haven’t figgered out how to do multiple photos on the same post w/the app yet.). But I hope you lke, & haven’t forgotten me yet! <3
Hi guys! I just wanted to check in, as I know it’s been a bit since I’ve been here. XP Things have been NUTS w/the upcoming move, but I swear I’ve not forgotten y’all. :):) I have just 2 days now to get the last of my stuff ready for the move, to get the cats all ready and the place allll cleaned up, and then on Friday I’ll be going down to Roanoke for my 2, count ‘em TWO performances, pretty much back-to-back that’re coming up Saturday. ^_^ -And then right after that, I come home Sunday, and BOOM, I leave for Oregon Monday! o.O What a whirlwind of “whoa!” ;D
But for those who might be in/near VA next Saturday, October 19th, I cordially invite you to come see me sing AND dance @ 1:30pm as part of Roanoke’s Pagan Pride Day 2013, and then later to join me at Haflaween just down the road @ 7pm, where I’ll be shimmying alongside a -great- group of dancers in a show that’s sure to feature TONS of spookylicious All Hallows style! XD I am SO excited about -both- of these events, because this will be my first PPD performance, my first onstage sacred dance/ritual performance, and my very FIRST Hallowe’en-themed performance too! (I’ve often had many such performance ideas in my head, but this’ll be the first time I’ve ever gotten to let any of them OUT! ;D) So come on out, take a peek, and spend a little time w/me and some other wonderful performers as we look to the light of the heavens and then sink to the Bottom of the River- all in one day! XD
Hope you guys are all doing well, and that your Octobers are turning out to be blessed, blissful & beautiful. *beams* Likely I’ll be back more often soon once the move is over (post Tuesday, probably), once things settle down, but I wanted y’all to know that I’ve not forgotten you, and that I look forward to being able to share this AMAZING journey I’m taking- to a whole new life, and what I pray will be a bigger, better, more brilliant future! ^_^
Brightest of Blessings,
Hey all! Guess what..? I just found out that ShimmyMob is holding a contest for its next event choreographer! (And those who submit entries are -not- required to participate in this coming year’s event, or to have participated in events past to be eligible to win! Squee!! XD) So to all my choreo goddesses out there, go take a peek!
..How -wonderful- would it be if someone non-traditional in body type, size or dis/ability (or a dancer who was truly empathetic of n’ friendly w/such folks) were to win this contest??? *beams*
C’mon beautiful divas, FLY to this, fly! Fly!! XD
I’m sorry.. I can’t help it! *inserts silly, Hallow-Oz-related gif here*
