A Mini-Compendium of Tee-Hacking Techniques
(For all you ShimmyMobsters who’re prepping your tees! :D)

This is one of the things I’ll be doing on my own tee, except that instead of semi-circles, I’m going to be making mine into little Vs, and geneerally a bit smaller, so it looks like a drop-shouldered, tribal choli- but doesn’t aerrate my entire arm. ;D  Whatcha think..?  Cute, no? :D

LOVING this last one too!  This’ll go perfectly w/all the pointy bits I’m gonna have on my tee (v-neck, pointy shoulders, pointy front). ^_^  Squeeee!  Now.. do you think I should do the fringe all ‘round on the bottom..?  Hmmm.. fringe.. lacing.. fringe.. or lacing… *ponder ponder*  Oh, the possibilities!  (And they’re all no-sew- YYYYES! *fistpump* XD)

Now my head is just SPINNING w/ideas (and I’m tempted to hack up every t-shirt I have. ;D).  How ‘bout you..?  ^_^

I’m putting on a craft-centered event in honor of Black Friday, in hopes of turning it into CraftFriday! :D  (If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see how terribly hard I’m trying to push that as a hash tag/keyword. *lol*  I’ve been using #CraftFriday in just about every other post for the past 2 days- since I had this idea. :))  I’m inviting people of all creative disciplines to join up via either Skype or GoogleChat to have a teleconference-cum-craftapalooza, so they can MAKE good things for gift giving this holiday season; instead of running around all over Heaven’s green creation on Friday, elbowing grannies out of the way to get to the Newest & Shiniest stuff in all those big-name, big-business chain stores out there. :)

So why am I telling all of YOU this?  ’Cause over the past few years I have found that bellydancers make a HUGE percentage of their costumes, jewelry, and other performance implements, and I thought y’all might wanna join!  The exact time and medium is up in the air for the moment (until more people weigh in on the best time and communication format that’s best for them), so drop on in and tell us what you think, and when you might like to pop in!  Check out the event’s page on Facebook here, and feel free to bring your friends!

This event is all about making something handmade; regardless of medium and who it’s for.  So if you make jewelry, sew, sculpt, knit, crochet, or do ANY other creative thing on the planet (yes, this includes dancing), you are most welcome to join!  If you wanna focus on your dance specifically, you could kibbitz w/us while you work on your dance web site, make fliers, work on gift certificates for your customers/friends/family (if you do that sort of thing), or plot out your next routine.  You could get help on music, choreo, costuming, who knows..?  And even if there aren’t a billion other creatives who work within your arena, you could always use the people there to bounce ideas off of, or take general-interest polls for your work, as you would w/the public. :)

We can send video, sound clips, all kinds of good stuff over the interwebs on both chat mediums.  So even if you don’t officially Make Anything, as a dancer, you can still participate. ^_^  And for those who aren’t familiar w/this kind of thing, think of it as either a teleconference for business, only w/a MUCH more fun topic in mind, and w/a bunch of kindred spirits who like creating- but allll KINDS of different things. ^_^  I tend to kind of think of it as a stitch-n’-bitch (a gathering of fiber artists to laugh & hang out together) or a craft-n’-kvetch (my version of the former gathering, as I don’t knit or crochet- but know LOTS of other people who do, and who do other crafts, too). :)

You can make something for yourself, you can make something to give away during the holidays, or you can make something for your own small business.  The basic idea is simply to get together w/other creative people, have a good time creating alongside one another (while not necessarily working on the same thing), and just gather w/other creative (and giving) spirits to have a general, good ol’ time. :)  That way we can all either have something cool to give for the holidays, or sell, or show, or whatever we choose ..if we’re so inclined. ^_^

So ANYHOO.. I would LOVE to have some bellydancers in the mix.  And being that bellydancers tend to be crafty people anyway, I thought I’d invite you along. :)

Here’s to doing what we can to support indie, local, and handmade businesses, and if I don’t “see” you before Thursday, Happy Turkey Day! :D

I feel like such a stupe…

Here I’ve been, longing for myriad loincloths, front slit panel skirts and the like to go w/various bellydance outfits (for aaaaages), and somehow it’s escaped me that the same thing I’ve done w/my hair falls, ..I can do w/a belt…

…

o.O *headdesk*

..I mean, I considered it when I tried making that straw-weave belt (which turned out horribly, so I frogged it), but still!!  Doing the fringe was just an option for when that was to get finished, so when that died, I guess I frogged the entire idea.  *shakes head, regretfully*  Now here I’ve been, lusting after crap I can’t get in time (let alone make) in anticipation of an upcoming event/photo-op (or anytime), when I could simply MAKE my own, equally fabulous (if not simpler) fringe belt?!?  OY!  Now picture what I could have made, if I hadn’t wasted all that time pouring over bellydance sites and Ebay! o.O

Yeah.. I’m bright. *lol*

…Ooh, but yanno.. I do have those giant and mixed-size cowrie shells we just recovered from my storage unit…. O.O
*begins to writhe hands wickedly*  YyyyyES!! XD

(Mind you, for the record I’m still a bit miffed & disheartened by the fact that it seems one MUST sew in order to bellydance-especially if you want the more unusual or unique designs, need tailored pieces or special sizes, and defffinitely if you ain’t got a ton a’ munneh-but nevertheless…)  I am a determined little mite… :D  *ponders, grinning wildly*  And fortunately, life is also made a little easier (or more Interesting, depending on your perspective ;)) if one is generally creative… ;D

..Therefore; time to go to bed methinks, so I can make ROCKIN’ belly-stuffs tomorrow! ^_^

*happier waves*
Wish me luck! :D

(Oh!  And PS:  Let me know if you ever have any craft ideas to offer, or belly-how-tos in mind which you’d like me to eke out. :)  Anything I find neat I’ll pass on here, and happily give full props & linkage to the responsible parties. :))

Sweet dreams, and happy Blue Moon, all! ^_^

I can has new bellydancer sculpture! :D

Originally she was just supposed to be a beautiful pair of eyes & forehead peeking out of a face veil and headwrap, but after sculpting her face I simply couldn’t cover it, so this new design evolved. :)

She’s got a gold droplet on her forehead & 2 more on either side of her face, a matching gold headpiece, a transparent blue & white Fimo veil wrapped ‘round her head, and glitter adorning her cheeks n’ nose; to complement her jewelry & the gold markings she has beneath her “bindi” and encircling her eyes.  (Which you can see much, much better in person.)

You can find more pics of her in my Fimo & Poly-Clay Creations folder, within my Photos section on FB. :)  (Along w/images of other works of mine; both bellydance-related and not.)  Ooh!  And the page is called Alternate Visions. :)

Hope ya like! ^_^

As some of you may or may not know, I really like to make things. :)  So, seeing as I’m also a sometime-bellydancer, it hit me that I NEEDED to make a bellydancer sculpture, while I worked to get a bunch of inventory together for an upcoming craft show.  ..Therefore, that’s exactly what I did. :)  It took a lot of futzing and finagling, but at last, she’s here! ^_^  Enter, my new li’l bellydance polymer clay doodad. :D  (For those not familiar w/my bizarre brand of pigeon, read “wall hanging” or “ornament” here. ;))

She’s meant to be sort of an amalgamation of genres, as well as a blend of dancers- which is why she has a turban w/adornments, in addition to red, brown & blonde hair. :)  She has tribal-style makeup (heavy on the liner & in the cat’s-eye fashion), is made of hand-blended polymer clays, and has jewels adorning her eyes, headwrap & forehead. :)  She’s about the size of your palm, and has a piece of hardware on back for hanging. :)

..And now that I’ve done her, I’ve got ideas for other styles I wanna do in future! :D

I hope you like!
