Next up, we’ve got a little Star Wars Saidi, courtesy of Zafirah! I love how she’s melded Leia’s white dress/uniform w/the Saidi galabeya, and how she works TWO light sabers at one point! :D
How cute is this?? ^_^
Yeep! Well I’ve unfortunately run out of time to much about today, so for THIS Geek Friday, I’m gonna choose the topic. (But if you still wanna weigh in, please do! We can put up peoples’ requests for next week! :D)
For today’s Geek Friday, we are starry-eyed, all the way!
..Well, Star WARS-y eyed, anyway! ^_^ For our first Geek Friday submission, we have a Wookie, BELLYDANCING! XD (And to a Klingon band, no less! So I guess for this one, we have a little Star-genre fusion. ;D) This is adorable and hysterical, and mehopes you like it as much as I do. ^_^
Have a great weekend, and may the Force be with you! ^_^
Loving this SO HARD!!! XD
Srsly.. how badass is this piece??? And when they start doing the drops and windmill kicks??? *dies* I -absolutely- lost it, y’all. *chuckles* I was quiet up until then, and suddenly- WHAM- total fan-girl. No joke. Of course I was loving it throughout, but at that point, I was -literally- hooting & hollering at my computer, and when it finally ended, I unabashedly cheered.- Like.. IRL. *lol* LOVE THIS!!! ♥♥♥
To those who think you need to be one gender or another to bellydance, I say check THIS out!!! ^_^ We’ve got rather butchy gents, rather femmy gents, gents who seem somewhat gender fluid, and they are ALL freaking YUMTASTICLY FIERCE. How can you go wrong??!! ^_^
Out of the whole beautiful bunch (of whom I adore every one, btw), I think my particular faves are the guy in all the scarves (on wrists and draping from his noggin) w/the face fuzz, the 2 short-haired gents often dancing side by side in the pointy-hemmed, sleeveless crop tops (especially the smaller one- his attitude, energy & moves were sublime!), and of course, that fluffier dancer in the mix, who TOTALLY rocked it out center stage at one point! Yee-ESS!!! (And can I just say right now how much I adore that they included a fuller-figured dancer in this? Thank you guys for that, too! ♥♥♥) ..Just.. LURVE!! XD *cheers insanely*
-And if you DO like what you see, you should check out this li’l photoshoot I featured of the amazing, the incomparable (and the imcomparably sweet) Bagoas here, long ago too. :)
Oh! Plus if YOU”RE a gent (or know of one) who’s interested in bellydance (or if you just dig ‘em and wanna find a list), I have an ever-growing compendium of male bellydancers (alongside resources for our dancing male friends) available here. ^_^ (So if you know of one I’ve missed, please, drop me a line! I wanna catch ‘em all! ;D)
Hope y’all dig, and no matter WHO you are, happy dancing! ^_^
I think Cirque makes some -incredible- music, which can be WONDERFUL inspiration for dancing, don’t you..? ^_^ While normally I’d think something like “Egypte” or “Querer” would be more “appropriate” dance material, I also like their more unconventional tracks for inspiration too; like “La Grosse Femme,” “Kumbalawe” and this one. ^_^
-But then, I’ve adored Cirque since I was 16, and have wanted to sing for/with them since way back then too, so.. I may be a little bit biased. ;)
Melaya luff sassiness!
I dunno if I’ve posted this before, but if I have, it’s so good, it’s worth posting again. :) It’s short and very sweet, well-written and inspiring like mad. ^_^
Plus, it features a bellydancer (w/what I believe is a milder case of cerebral palsy) who has done AMAZING things w/her own pursuit of this dance. Check her out, ‘cause Neena Nour is a -faboo- dancer! ^_^)
If you’re physically challenged through disability or injury, you may think dancing is beyond your grasp. Belly dance may offer the solution!
Holy gods… CHECK THAT OUT!!! I wish the lighting were better, ‘cause this lady is a FIERCE dancer!!! That has got to be one of the best automaton imitations I have -ever- seen, and her incorporation of bellydance into it was just.. TOO eerie!! She had it right down to even the expressions, and I lurvs! Now, do ya think she’d teach US how to do that?? ^_^ SO GOOD! ^_^ *claps IRL*
Ooooh, look what I just found! A new SET of fabulous toys to potentially work with in bellydance! And one is bladed, while the other can be set on FIRE! I am one happy bunny! ^_^ *hop hop*
The misconception is that the terms Buugeng and S-Staff are synonymous, however this is not technically correct. A Buugeng is blade shaped, hinged in the middle (making it collapsable for easier storage and transportation) and not a full semi-circle which will slightly change the patterns you create. Traditional S-Staffs resemble standard contact staffs with each side molded into a semi-circle. Buugeng.com forum post titled “BUUGENG!!! Here is what it is!” by Sennyo posted January 22th, 2010 (Read the forum post)
Wooooooow!!!! I’ve known for many moons that this song was great for bellydance, but I’d -never- seen the video.. and now that I have.. I am just BLOWN AWAY!!! There are moments in this where the dancers give me CHILLS. (Like, a few parts in the beginning, and oh.. the whole second HALF of the piece, where the Maestra dances! O.O) And here I was, just coming to share it w/you because it suddenly popped into my head and wouldn’t leave, so I thought I’d pass it on, and hope that it inspired some of you to bellydance to it too. Now I’m like “DEWD! Not only do I need to take more ATS (which is -totally- inspired by Flamenco in many ways), but I need to take Flamenco, too!! -Now w/o a doubt- more than ever!!”
I’ve loved the look and feel of Flamenco dancing for as far back as I can remember, and always wanted to learn.. but this.. this totally galvanizes me. Oh, the power and the ferocity of the PASSION in that dance!! And then.. to be able to take bits of that and infuse it into bellydance??? *shakes head, in awe* —Love love love!!—
Happy Bealtaine/Beltane/May Day, everyone! Mehopes this music moves you, inspires you, and invites you to join the dance! ^_^ Have a wonderful day and a delightful season; full of growth, happiness, joy, and fulfillment!
