I freakin’ love this. Not only does it look great for bellydance, but I’m also a HUGE old-school Changeling fan, so ths tutorial overall makes me very, very happy. ^_^ This could work for a show, for a fantasy-themed event (for example, in the game, Eshu are a type of faerie, which might inspire one to wear this at a ren. faire, a faerie festival, or other fantasy-themed gather), or heck, for any ol’ thang! ^_^ Plus, I love that she uses cheapie makeup, too! *beams* (Po’ girl no-budget win! :D)
Hope y’all dig! *happy geeky shimmies*

In order from left to right, top to bottom:
Hope y’all like!

“Unicorn” hair falls made for my upcoming gig (to sell). ^_^ (One with flash, one without.)
I may or may not be performing onstage for this one, but either way I’ll be a traveling minstrel, dancing everywhere I go, and I’ll have a vending booth. ^_^
(And to those who worry for our endangered creatures’ safety, fear not! These were made by benevolent li’l pixies to act as decoys- for luring hunters AWAY from our unicorn friends. ;))

Hi guys! I wasn’t gonna post here about this originally, but since some of my bellydancing friends have talked about how perfect this would be for upcoming performances, I thought I’d share. :)
For those of the water-baby persuasion, I just wanted to put out a quick share regarding a little contest Alternate Visions (my art, craft & otherwise randomly creative business) is having. The contest ends whenever I wake up Apr. 1, and all you need to do to enter is submit a poem about a mermaid being tired of getting mistaken for a manatee (or other aquatic creature, as per all the old legends and peoples’ rationalizations of them now). :) First prize consists of this necklace AND a piece of new, original mermaid art, and second prize is a mermaid-inspired bracelet. :)
For more info, visit: https://www.facebook.com/alternatevisions/posts/10152427205462588.
or my blog page discussing it, at:
http://alternate-visions.blogspot.com/2013/02/arright-since-it-seems-snow-daze-image.html
You can submit an entry here via Tumblr, there via Blogger/Blogspot, or on the FB page in a Page post or through PM. :) And if you like, feel free to share. ^_^
I know it’s not exactly -exclusively- bellydancy, but I guess it could work well for a more casual venue, or water-inspired performance, no..? :)
Hope ya dig!

I’ve been searching for mermaid bellydance videos for some time now, yet somehow, I just now found this. O.O Dude..! I positively love this depiction, don’t you? ^_^ (And they didn’t Disney it up! Wahoo!! XD),
My wee company Alternate Visions is having a mermaid-themed contest (inspired by another mermie project that -might- be in the works), so now more than ever, my mind is on merfolk! (Which is saying something, if you know me at all. ;)) So with that being said, I guess there’s only one thing left TO say: Calling all mermaids!! Bring out your merfolk, your selchies, your undines, your naiads, nyxies, merrow & water nymphs! Show us your favorite mermaid-themed bellydance photos & videos, please please??
(And if you want to take part in my li’l contest, see below!)

“Calling all writers, poets and mermaid fans! Alternate Visions is looking for a mermaid poem, elucidating the differences between a plus-size mermaid and a manatee! This is meant to be a POSITIVE, loving, fun challenge, and there will be TWO prizes for the winner, as well as a prize for the second place runner up! ^_^
1st prize will be a new, original piece of mermaid art, as well as a new mermaid-themed necklace, and the 2nd prize will be a brand new mermaid-themed bracelet! ^_^ More details can be found at the link below, and should you need a little inspiration, check out this little tidbit, here. :) Mehopes y’all take part, as this should be great fun, & I can’t wait to see what people come up with! ^_^

So.. I have a mermaid-inspired show coming up- at an open mic variety night! ^_^ I’ll be singing and dancing, and while I have much of it planned out, I am in need of help w/2 major things: 1- I need a stage name- like PRONTO! I’m afraid “Ylluria” will be way too hard for most people to pronounce (let alone the announcer), and while I’ve pondered variations like “Yluria,” the same conundrum still applies. I’ve pondered Ilaria/Ylaria (which to me mean “from/of music,”) but these are both used for bellydancers elsewhere. So now.. well.. my crisis w/naming seems to be kind of coming to a panicked head… o.O Meeeeeep! Yo estoy completamente lost!
Secondly; might anyone have suggestions for costuming or makeup..? (I am a HUGE mermie/selchie/undine/waterling fan and I have some ideas, but my tastes span the gammut and I’d love your thoughts/input. :)) I’ve been thinking a hugely drape-sleeved, silver show-girl kind of thing (you know, like the grande dammes of the stage world used to wear..? The long dresses w/the great almost Tudor-style sleeves..?) as well as of a silver abaya/galabeya.. or even a silver and blue cabaret-ish outfit- covered in sequins, rhinestones, and/or paillettes.
The second piece is an old-timey tune about a plus-sized bellydancer called “Egyptian Ella,” and the whole piece has a relatively old-fashioned, torch-singery/30s-50’s feel, so I think I’m going for a more Cabaret look and style for this one. :) I love anything mermaidy or water-related/inspired, so anything figure-flattering in that arena would be great! ^_^ (So folks can get an idea of my general shape so they can formulate the best ideas; I am short & relatively busty, w/a small waist and -ample- curves below that.) As for links to costumeries or specific outfits, as long as it’s silver, blue, or some combination thereof (and of course, plus-size-friendly), I’m open. :)
Whatcha’ll think..? Now that it’s confirmed, the nerves are taking hold, and my brainwaves have suddenly snapped into panic-stricken static mode… *lol* Thanks so much for any help/ideas! ^_^
*bats big, brown doe eyes at you all imploringly*

As it’s close to Halloween and this is costume/makeup related (not to mention partially Tribal bellydance-inspired :)), I thought I’d share this w/you all. :)
So.. what you see before you is a sampling of the pics I took for my horns & ears pieces last night. :) I’m pondering various outfits for Raven’s Night & FaerieCon coming up, n’ this was both a means for experimentation, and a way for me to show folks how they might wear my weird, crafty little bibbledybobs. :)
These shots are PURELY for fantasy’s sake, and inspired by everything from good friends who do GREAT makeup, the interpretations I’ve seen some Tribal dancers do in the spirit of more ancient, aboriginal-style face painting, shamanic and warrior designs used by various tribes of peoples around the world, & faerie-related events; like the aforementioned, fast-approaching FaerieCon. :)
This was also my first attempt ever at doing makeup in this kind of style- so please be gentle. ;) (It was harder and more exacting than you’d think! ;D) And boy.. I cannot TELL you how truly & INCREDIBLY empowering this experience was. I dunno if it was the makeup, the shirt, the accessories or a combination thereof, but I do not exaggerate when I say that for the first time in my life, I was able to look in the mirror for once and not see ANYTHING lacking. I felt fierce, powerful, beautiful, edgy, magickal and STRONG, and I cannot relate how special that feeling is. For once, I was -completely- in love w/image I saw staring back at me- and that’s huge. :)
I have always found beauty and exotic, powerful qualities in others, but never, EVER believe myself capable of such things. Sure, at times I’d feel “pretty” or “well,” or “smart,” or even “strong..” but I neeeever thought I had the epic kind of “wow” that some others exhibited on stage- or elsewhere. I freely admit that I have HUGE confidence problems, likely an inferiority complex that it’d take a bulldoser to unearth, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I needed a truckload of counselling surmount it. But last night, I got a taste of that epic confidence, and that was amaaaaaaazing. ^_^ ..I kind of no longer feel like I entirely lack the Epic gene. ;)
If you’ve ever felt that before- like you were always wanting, but never had, or if you too have had an experience similar to this, you can imagine how powerful and transformative a moment like this can be. :) Now that it’s over, I sure as Heaven hope the power of that realization stays w/me.. always. ..But now that the makeup’s off, I can still feel that kind of gravitas and appreciation of my OWN beauty shining through.. so.. maybe this one’ll stick. ;)
I’m not exactly sure what or how it happened, but regardless, I am ENORMOUSLY grateful. I guess the lessons I learned from last night were “venture outside your comfort zone once in a while,” “have faith in yourself,” and “don’t be afraid to do what truly inspires you inside.. ‘cause the end result could mean SO MUCH more to you (and others) than you’d ever POSSIBLY imagine.” *beams*
If you’d like to see more, you can find other pics from this set on my FB page here. Mehopes you like what you see, and that you have a moment like this too sometime soon, if you haven’t already. ;) ♥
Great Big Hugs & Love,

Looove the campfire, primal-y, almost fantasy-movie feel of this. ^_^ Plus her headdress is gorgeous, hella unusual, and she has some great movements here. :D Great music, and overall magical piece. ^_^ Nicely done, Katarina!

Here, have a bit of folklore-rich, Irish faerie magick! ^_^
See, if you know me (or if you read this for very long), you’ll know that I am a HUGE mythology, fantasy & folklore fan. As it happens, the story of Tam Lin is one of my absolute favorites- because it features a strong female protagonist, the fae, and a beautiful fae-enchanted lad. ^_^
Therefore, you can imagine my delight when I heard that the awesome group Tricky Pixie had made a song of the same name. While I’d never heard a rendition talking about our lead mistress being with child, upon hearing TP’s rendition live at a faerie convention (yes, they have those ;)), I nearly fell out of my seat in ecstasy. Such scintillating, slithery, seductive stuff!!! Just take a listen and see if you don’t agree. :)
For me, this song BEGS to be danced to. ^_^ Something slow, languid & sexy.. with lots of intensity & eye contact- and maybe even a touch of menace. ;D Ooh!- and perhaps, with a sword? *beams and tries not to bounce*
Now, go out and check out more of TP’s music! It’s amazing stuff!
(But don’t you go stealin’ my ideers! ;P *lol*)
