Here, have some wonderful music to shimmy your day into high gear! :D
Check out this booful vid by Delhi to Dublin, who’s gonna be at FaerieWorlds this July! (Along w/OMNIA, who’ll be coming to the states for the very FIRST TIME EVER. XD ..Now you know part of why I wanna be OUT THERE BY MID JULY! ;D) -And I think I see a bellydancer somewhere in there, too! :D

I think Cirque makes some -incredible- music, which can be WONDERFUL inspiration for dancing, don’t you..? ^_^ While normally I’d think something like “Egypte” or “Querer” would be more “appropriate” dance material, I also like their more unconventional tracks for inspiration too; like “La Grosse Femme,” “Kumbalawe” and this one. ^_^
-But then, I’ve adored Cirque since I was 16, and have wanted to sing for/with them since way back then too, so.. I may be a little bit biased. ;)

Have y’all seen these..? Dewd.. that thing is HUGE! o.O
I’ve found a cheaper version on the Wally-World website (‘cause I’m a girl on a budget- and someone mentioned them on YT as well ;D), but if you don’t like WW, you can also find one @ Target, and surely other places like Sally, or other beauty suppliers. :) This one’s by Revlon, and atm, it’s on sale @ Wooly-Mart for $19.99, :D (Plus Revlon has one of a similar type and price, which I’d like to learn more about as well. They look the same, but have different names, so it makes me wonder if they’re any different in actual performance or design.)
This one seems to have some great reviews on YT as well as WM (and I chose the one of the two that’re similar that had the best reviews), so now I’m -really- curious! ^_^ Those waves create -exactly- the kind of hair I’ve always dreamt of having (yanno, that epic mermaid look ;D), and I think this thing would be -perfect- for Cabaret dancers; who want that bouncy, romance-novel heroine hair as well. :D
I think the only thing I’d be afraid of is burning myself while I did the back and top of my head- buuuut, that’s not too much different that what you go through w/a curling iron, no..? (I don’t use those much either though, in part for that reason.) -But man, how cool IS this thing..? It looks like a medieval torture device, but from the looks of it, could do your hair in waves pretty darned fast! :D ..Now I’m like “hmm.. I might be able to get ahold of one of those pre-ShimmyMob…” ;D
So, have any of y’all used one of these..?

Wooooooow!!!! I’ve known for many moons that this song was great for bellydance, but I’d -never- seen the video.. and now that I have.. I am just BLOWN AWAY!!! There are moments in this where the dancers give me CHILLS. (Like, a few parts in the beginning, and oh.. the whole second HALF of the piece, where the Maestra dances! O.O) And here I was, just coming to share it w/you because it suddenly popped into my head and wouldn’t leave, so I thought I’d pass it on, and hope that it inspired some of you to bellydance to it too. Now I’m like “DEWD! Not only do I need to take more ATS (which is -totally- inspired by Flamenco in many ways), but I need to take Flamenco, too!! -Now w/o a doubt- more than ever!!”
I’ve loved the look and feel of Flamenco dancing for as far back as I can remember, and always wanted to learn.. but this.. this totally galvanizes me. Oh, the power and the ferocity of the PASSION in that dance!! And then.. to be able to take bits of that and infuse it into bellydance??? *shakes head, in awe* —Love love love!!—
*swoons*

Awesome article! Are any of my bellydancers out there Deaf or HoH..? Have any of you non-Deaf/HoH performers ever interacted w/members of the Deaf/HoH public during any of your performances..? I’m so glad this article came my way, because I’ve been wanting to re-focus on this blog’s dis/ability inspiration, involvement, awareness and advocacy. What do y’all think..?
Have you teachers out there ever had HoH or Deaf students..? How do you feel bellydance might work for folks who’re Deaf or Hard of Hearing..? And, conversely, what challenges have you seen Deaf or HoH people face (either in class or in your own audiences)? (Outside of the obvious course.. and -especially- those challenges which you found were able to be overcome… :)) I’d love to hear more about bellydance and its connections with people who’re hearing-impaired and/or Deaf. ^_^

This is a list of tips on how to serve your teen patrons who are deaf & hard of hearing, and it’s pretty great! Teens are such a specialized population group to work with anyway, since they deal in all manner of emotions (or non-emotions) and can even be intimidating. Deaf/hoh teens may still be struggling with advocacy skills (I know I sure did), and need that extra boost of confidence. If you recognize a teen is deaf or hard of hearing, use these tips!
The only one I really question is the use of the microphone, because while microphones make sound louder, they don’t clarify the sound. The issue sometimes isn’t hearing the other person, but understanding them, and there’s a huge difference there that people don’t seem to grasp. I would suggest reserving spaces/seats specifically for your deaf/hoh teens to sit in the front, as close as they can be, on the off chance they can see the speaker better and therefore pick up on visual cues.

If you ever work w/fire (literally or figuratively- beit mentally and/or spiritually) as you dance, this could be a SUPER-nifty image to hold in your mind as you work/perform/move. ^_^ ..Fire-dancing magick..? Why yes please!! XD

Thanks, it’s an original design by Cinna

Some of you might have seen it before, but for my newer readers, I thought I’d repost. :) For what it’s worth, here’s a little collection I made on @8tracks: “Bellydance Bliss.” :) It features music from various genres that are -great- for bellydancing, all of which can be found on SoundCloud. ^_^
I have lists made elsewhere, and am still hoping to restart my podcast, so if you like what you hear here, lemme know. ^_^ (And if you’ve time, perhaps you’ll drop by my li’l page for Eclectica and let me know what you want in a podcast- where I DEFINITELY intend to feature more bellydance music. ^_^)

I made a playlist for the people taking part in my Plus Size Photo Project, and later, realized that some of y’all might dig it, too. :) There’s no trad. bellydancing music on there, but surely some folks could still create BOFFO routines to some of its music, and it could be FAB for listening to while you get ready for a show or a night out on the town. ^_^ It’s all about getting you inspired, feeling fabulous and having confidence, and it features a good few tunes about being curvy & proud. :)
If y’all have any suggestions for stuff to add to it, feel free to pop ‘em my way. (ESPECIALLY if they’re bd-related or feature Middle Eastern, Indian, or other World Music influences!) Hope ya like, n’ dance on, lovelies!! ^_^
