So.. unfurtnately I has been a busy, busy bunny, so I do not have a Geek Friday batch of goodies for you today (as yet). However, may I offer to make amends, via this INSANELY KICKASS troupe performance, here..?
Pretty, pretty please..?
Hole. E. GODS this performance, this troupe, those costumes.. the staging.. the dancers as a group and as individuals.. -everything- about this was simply UNREAL!! LOVE love loVE this. Imho, these-guys-kick-BUTT!!! Lllllilililililili-yiiiiIP!!
Question: Has anyone ever heard of using audible cues for ATS or ITS..? I know this might be hard to manage, given music & environmental noise in a venue, but I think it’d be GREAT to learn either dance form, and then find a way to translate it to a means of audio cuing, so I could teach it to the blind n’ visually impaired. ^_^
Hmm.. maybe since ATS dancers are so often vocal in their performances w/yips, one could use things like varying yips, those lovely low “eeeeys!” (like I learned form the incredible Mavi as I listened to her chearing people on at Tribal Cafes in DC ^_^), trills n’ the like, etc..? Or perhaps a stomp or two..? ..Thoughts..?
So, who else is starting to prep for Hallowe’en..?
I’ve got a few possibilities happening.. orrrr I might have nothing, depending on where I am in the country at that point. *lol* And as for the blog, I’ve got a few things starting to bubble in my cauldron, too. ^_^ *plot plot*
So in honor of that, and as a first, early-early taste of things yet to come, check out Ms. Helena- “ya hussy of horrah!” :D
Sadly, both recent posts from Helena and the marvelous Belly Horror show (an event in the DC area I’ve been blessed to attend once or twice) no longer seem to be in production (AFAIK), but the magic they’ve left behind still lives on. (And thankfully, some of the lovely folks behind BH are now putting on a NEW show, called “Raven’s Night,” which is around the same time of year, but has some great new twists n’ turns to its themes. So if you’re in the DC/MD/VA area during October, you should SO check that out! ♥) And Helena, she’s just great anytime. If you like horror, you should definitely check out this divine dollface over on her YouTube channel or webspace, even if there’s nothing new over there. If you’re new to her work, there’ll -still- be tons of wicked li’l goodies to savor- especially if you like horror hosts ala Ct. Gore Vidal & Elvira. ;D
Now, back to business! :D Who else is getting ready for All Hallows Eve..? Do you have any performance plans..? And if so, have you started to eke out your music, your choreo, or your costume(s)? And if you’re orchestrating your own event, do tell! And whether you’re on stage or in the audience, as a dancer, a fan, or what have you; what do YOU like in a spooky bellydance performance..?
Oh! Plus this year I intend to put out another Creepie Compendium (a compiled listing of Hallowe’en & Samhain-related bellydance events throughout the US & abroad), so if you’d like to help boost the signal for your event, drop me a line!
Or, do you have a Hallowe’en-related bellydance performance you’d like to share? Be ye witch, werewolf, zombie, goblin, mummy or vampire, I’d love to fill the month of October w/grand examples of spooky bellydance pieces to delight, amuse, enchant, haunt & inspire. ^_^ And if this is a religious holiday for you, spiritually-based pieces (say in honor of Samhain or El Dia de los Muertos) are welcome, too! ^_^
So regardless of dance style, body size, disability, faith, etc, won’t you come play..? Hallowe’en (and October in general) is gonna be BADASS, ‘cause in my book- *breaks into song* “it’s the mooost wonderful tiiiime- of the yeaaaar…!” ;D
Beauuuutiful stuff! (And I want those ghawazee tops/dresses! Those SLEEVES!!! *shivers with happy*
Oh! And speaking of myooziks, has anyone taken a listen to either of my new, revived li’l podcast..? If so, lemme know whatcha think! ^_^
It’s all about, by and for bellydance & bellydancers, so I hope the community enjoys it. ^_^ (And next up, I’ll be doing a show about the more unusual types of music dancers groove to, from Southern swang to gothy, and classical to maybe even a li’l dubstep. ;D) ♥♥♥
This mob looks SO GREAT! Love their energy, love their awesome hair, and love all the stuff they did BEFORE the Mob dance. ^_^ I had no -idea- there were so many bellydancers in Las Vegas! What a cool lookin’ crew! Makes me wanna go out to Vegas just for the bellydancing! ^_^
Love the ATS, love the spirit, and love that there are multiple fluffy dancers in this crowd, too. Y’all look AWESOME, and I hope the audience adored you, too! ^_^

Serpent Muse Showcase 3/30/13
There is so much fantabulousness in this (and in so many layers) I can hardly process. Seriously.. there are moments in this video where I got honest-to-God/dess chills. (Especially the face-to-face, “duel/duet” sections. -And the part where the zills start up..?? *shivers* GUH!! XD) SO- MUCH- FIERCE, gentlemen!! SO MUCH FIERCE!!! *applauds and tries to invisi-zill along delightedly* Plus I love the way they let each member shine!! My favorite is the tall man in the yellow, because of his flair, his intensity, and his awesome energy. ^_^ (As well as his showmanship, and how cheeky he gets! :D) But every single ONE of them is awesome. Love the ‘stumes, love the moves, love the choreo, love the smiles, love the vibe, love the music- and love their spirit!! —-♥—-
Gentlemen, I know you can do it y’own damned selves, but for what it’s worth, I would happily tote your bellydance bags around- ANYTIME. ^_^ (And for those who don’t get the reference; that’s something lots of kind, generous gents often end up doing for us ladydancers- ‘cause we bellydancers tend to carry a TON to our shows. ;) Skirts and props and makeup and and and and—- it all gets HEVEH!! So men can frequently be seen prior to engagements helping tote giant bags and suitcases of belly-goodness. :))
Acgh.. Y’ALL KICK SUCH BUTT!!!
..Does anyone know where a girl can find videos on the various means and methods for tucking skirts in the ATS/ITS styles..? I don’t do ATS (YET), but I -adore- all the nifty ways they seem to know how to tuck their voluminous skirtage. :D Are there any instructional videos on YT, Vimeo or elsewhere that demonstrates different bellydance skirt-tucking styles..?
Check it out! It’s an online bellydance competition, that’s accepting entries RIGHT NOW!! GREAT lineup of judges, and FIERCE videos submitted so far. (It’s where the last video I posted about is from. ^_^) If you bellydance and want more visibility and/or opportunities, GO SEE!!!! ^_^
Images like this make me happy like you would not believe. ^_^
And thanks to sihayadesigns, I now know who this is! *does a happy dance* These are two members of WildCard BellyDance! (I beliiiieve maybe Kristen and Robin, but don’t quote me on that. ;)) Their troupe does gorgeous work. Go on over n’ check ‘em out! ^_^
