Hey peoples!
Have y’all ever noticed how some dancers’ hair is just.. FA-LAW-LESS..? Like satiny sheets of shiny gorgeousness that NEVER looks stringy, NEVER looks frazzled, and somehow allllways seems to fall back into place, even after they’ve been whipping their heads around and holding it up off n’ on for ages n’ ages..? Well, maybe it’s just me, but if you have too, I wonder, are there any belly-goddesses out there w/Flawless n’ Fabulous Stage Hair tips..? Do y’all use anything specific? Cut it a certain way? What products to you like, etc..?
That Sharzad video reminded me of this question that I’ve been pondering for a while now, ‘cause her hair was amazing. Zoe Jakes started me off w/wondering about this, ‘cause she would DEFINITELY be my top bellydance hair goddess. My hair is long but fine, and I would LOVE to have just sheeeeets of full, silky hair like hers, that looks healthy and amazing even when it grows down to my knees (which I’m genuinely shooting for, in terms of length). ^_^ How ‘bout you? Is there someone in your constellation of belly-stars who you think has incredible, flaw-free tresses? Do tell! ^_^

Yeep! I just realized that in my intense attempts to get Eclectica’s second ep. off the ground, I totally FORGOT about Geek Friday! o.O So, in an effort to make amends, is there any particular subject you’d like me to cover..? Video games? Comics? Movies? Sudoku? *lol* I’m still kinda wobbly when it comes to Tumblr atm, but I want to make sure I keep up w/things I’ve promised y’all, like contests, weekly posts, etc., so if there’s anything in particular you’d like to see/hear from me, feel free to let me know. :) (Otherwise we’ll just go back to the afore-mentioned SteamPunk theme, which I dorkily forgot. *blush* My apple-ologies again ‘bout that. ♥♥)

I have decided that no matter WHERE I am when the day comes, I will be having a HAFLA for my birthday. ^_^ What better way to celebrate w/friends, to share lasting, joyful memories, and connect w/the people I love?? :D
Many of my favorite memories include parties that my family has had over the years, ‘cause we are some -bigtime- dancers (in absolutely The Most Casual Sense Possible) who share LOTS of love, togetherness, and spirit in our celebrations; and often much of right on dancefloor, amidst laughter, silliness, and just all-out dancing joy. ^_^ Whenever there is ever a truly large occasion (like a wedding, big anniversary, or maaajor birthday) a big to-do is thrown, w/my family ready to get on the dance floor, to boogie the night away. ^_^ (It’s been a good few years since we’ve had one though.. so I’m thinkin’ it’s high time we’re due. ;D)
And that’s why I think no matter where I am, or who I’m with, I want to invite my family (by blood and otherwise), to come celebrate w/me in one of the best ways I know how.. DANCE! ^_^ Nothing too formal (unless ya wanna be), and nothing too showy (again, unless ya wanna be), and no one NEEDS to dance (‘cause we’ll have an open drumming circle too ;D), but yes, I think a b-day hafla is DEFINITELY in order for this year. ^_^

I’ll be working on getting the podcast (Eclectica) out by the fifth, and wanted to put one last call in for music requests. :) If you want certain music (or to avoid certain music ;)), please, give a holler! :D Let me know what you dig, so that I can make the best show possible for you- my fellow bellydancers. ^_^ ♥ ♥ ♥
And that’s it for me for tonight, all! Sweet dreams!

We’re getting close to Friday! Is there any particular subject or fandom you’d like to see covered in the world of geeky bellydance tomorrow? D&D? Doctor Who..? Star Wars? Star Trek..? Werewolves, vampires, or classic nerd chic..? Do tell!

Does anyone out there still listen to podcasts..?
As some of you might already know, I’m reviving my old, long-lost (or, more accurately “long deceased”) podcast, Eclectica. And since this newer, better, zombified version is gonna be MUCH cooler than before (read; more bellydance-inspired ;D), I wanted to get YOUR insights on how the newly resurrected show should be. ^_^
Do you ever listen to podcasts..? If so, why or why not..? Are you looking for any particular content, music style, program style, length, format, etc..? What do you like/dislike in a program/podcast..? And where do you tend to get your podcasts from..? (iTunes, the interwebs, Spotify, etc..?)
If you have a moment, wouldst thou come and giveth a little feedback, so I can make the best podcast possible..? I’d love to hear what my beautiful bellydance community would like, so I can craft a show that I know all of my amazing dancer peeps out there will love. ^_^
Thanks so Muchly!

It’s funny how so many performers yearn to perform, but when the opportunity presents itself, how truly, utterly, & paralyzingly terrifying that can be.
I think part of it is it he idea of opening up. In order to make a performance genuine and real, we have to open ourselves up and express various parts of ourselves that can often be very sensitive, intimate.. and private. We’re showing the world our raw inner parts so to speak, and that can be insanely scary. But that expression, that sharing, that intimacy.. that’s exactly what makes a performance GOOD, so I think for my part, we have to remember that what we’re sharing with the world is wonderful and precious and worth sharing, because it’s a part of US.. our hearts, and that’s not only beautiful, but it’s exactly what people come to see. It’s what people connect with, gravitate to…
And though the idea of opening ourselves up to people and having them not like it is scary as poo, (again, for me), I think the idea is to remember the people who you ARE reaching. ’Cause nobody can tell your story, or express your heart, thoughts, feelings & ideas, quite like -you.- ^_^
Plus, for what it’s worth (though it may sound a bit egotistical to some), another thought occurred to me a while back that really stuck w/me- which relates to the above: Think of all the amazing stuff that you love right now- the music, the costumes, the singers.. all the creative stuff in your life that gives you joy, that highlights your memories, and that lifts you up when you’re uber, uber low. Now imagine what your life would be like had those people who made those things NOT had the courage to share those parts of themselves w/the world. If that singer hadn’t had the courage to share their songs. If that musician had said “I’m not good enough” and never chose to share his/her gifts. The Universe would be empty of their expression, and you wouldn’t have that thing that gives you joy.
As performers, it’s the same for us. If we shrink away, if we say “I’m not good enough,” or never have the courage to release that part of ourselves, we might never connect w/that one person in the audience, who’ll care the memory of us in their heart always. We might never inspire that woman to go out and learn to dance. That little girl in the front row might never see you and say “I wanna be like that.” Or the person you touch with your emotive performance may never have heard that song, or experienced the power OF that song until you performed it, and now it’s one of their favorites. Do you know what I mean..? Not only is it a chain, but without YOU, you might be depriving someone of the magic that only -you- can bring to the stage, and that’s a super, super precious thing. ^_^
Lastly, it also takes serious GUTS to go up on stage and share those intimate parts of yourself with the world. That -alone- deserves applause. The fact that one is even considering going up on a stage and sharing what they have with the world is mega, so don’t discount that. People go their whole lives dreaming about doing x y and z, but never having the courage to even try for it. So you being willing to put yourself out there is HUGE. Take that into consideration, too. :)
As for me, I still get hit hardcore by near-debilitating stage fright. I have all my life. But much of that I think comes from my life-long cultivated inferiority complex. The blind kid. The fat kid. The weird kid… The one who nobody ever really wants to hear ANYTHING from (on stage or off..), so why would anyone wanna hear ME sing..? Or see ME bellydance..? What right do I have to be up there on that stage.. taking up that space, or using that microphone..? What do I have to say as a performer..? As a person..? Well, in part- all of the above. :) And I think I’ve grown a good bit inside, even since the last time I performed in December. :) (And even then, it was easier to stand on that stage than it ever has been in my life. :)) Now the key is, I just have to remember all of the WONDERFUL things I’ve learned over the last few years, when next I perform. (Or even, when next I’m gathering up the courage to put out a new creative project.. or go out on a limb to make a video, try out for some show, participate in a contest, put out my podcast, etc..) We have to believe in OUR visions, and what WE’RE WORTH. (Which is so, -so much.- ’Cause there’s nobody out there -exactly- like us. Nobody can tell OUR STORIES.. but us. ;)) ♥
..It’s not always easy, but it CAN be done. We just have to believe that the songs we have in our hearts are WORTH hearing- no matter how we express those songs (beit through dance, art, voice, cooking, fashion, hair, whatever). And then, we WILL do it. We will face up and take that stage, with grace, poise, brilliance, skill, stunning beauty, truth, poetry and passion. WE WILL.
We just have to make everybody believe what we already know:
That we are fabulous and strong and unique; inside AND out. ^_^

Calling all cars! Calling all cars! ^_^
A while back this blog reached 301 readers, and in honor of that momentous occasion, I offered up a contest. :) So, before I tally up the entries, would anyone else like to throw their hat in..? I’ll give folks one more week, in case my new readers haven’t heard, and want to join in too. :)
See below for details, and again, thanks so much for following you guys! I truly and sincerely hope y’all like what you find here. :) (And, for the record, contest or no contest, I am -always- open to hearing your thoughts, feelings & ideas on how BTBD could be a better blog. -As well as any thoughts or ideas you might have on contests for the future! I’m new to this whole blog contesting thing, so your suggestions help a ton! :D)
Thank you so much again for taking this journey with me, and to each and every one of you; happy shimmying! ^_^

Before I go to bed, I have to spread the contagion that my friend AmethystJade “cursed” me with a few days ago. :) I’ve been meanin’ to share it all day, but I keep getting distracted- so ‘ere ya go, now. :)
From the first few seconds this gave me chills, & after a few more moments I -knew- it could be badass to bellydance to. ^_^ My friend warned me that she’d had it stuck in her head for weeks.. but carelessly, I clicked anyway, & since, the pounding, catchy & soulful of it has eaten me alive. ;D
This thing’s been ruddy haunting me since hearing it, and now, I must pass it on to all of you. ^_^ It has got a BADASS rhythm and wonderful vocals, and an intensity & darkness that I think would work brilliantly w/Tribal-style bellydance. ^_^ Maybe y’all have heard it already, but I hadn’t.. and it just blew me away. XD
Now I just can’t decide whether I want to do a cover of it or dance to it first…
*lol*
Hope you like, ‘cause I think it’s KICKIN’. :D
LYRICS:
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down to the bottom of the river
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down, a long way down
If you get sleep or if you get none
The cock’s gonna call in the morning, baby
Check the cupboard for your daddy’s gun
Red sun rises like an early warning
The Lord’s gonna come for your first born son
His hair’s on fire and his heart is burning
Go to the river where the water runs
Wash him deep where the tides are turning.
And if you fall…
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down to the bottom of the river
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down, a long way down.
The wolves will chase you by the pale moonlight
Drunk and driven by a devil’s hunger
Drive your son like a railroad spike
Into the water, let it pull him under
Don’t you lift him, let him drown alive
The good Lord speaks like a rolling thunder
Let that fever make the water rise
And let the river run dry.
And I said-
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down to the bottom of the river
Hold my hand,
Ooh, baby, it’s a long way down, a long way down…
